Project – Sunrise Badminton Network

Foreword

This newly formed idea of a Badminton Network will become the legacy club of Bridgewater Junior Badminton Club. At that time, it was not a viable idea to open 1 club at 1 point in the town of Warrington.

The foundation of this idea lies in the method of forestry, the same as what works best in Asian countries in badminton. I want to achieve a similar idea of making lots of clubs close to each other, connected with local schools and coaches also have good links to local PE teachers, local sports organisers, Council representatives, and local youth organisations.

Background:

Currently, there is a growing interest in playing and competing in badminton at a young age in and around Warrington. There is no chance to play badminton every weekday locally for a kid.

Travelling times make parents decide to reduce the number of possible occasions to spend more time on the court a week.

From the age of 7-18, the most important is to provide them time to get involved in the basics of badminton through fun activities and to be able to play the game as many times as they can.

Furthermore, there are a few good players in Warrington who are playing elsewhere in other leagues as St. Helens, Southport, Liverpool or Manchester leagues as Warrington`s league is not challenging enough.

This means, at some point in their early career, our youngsters will leave Warrington as there`s no chance to become better here.

Objectives:

We aim to open and manage 3 junior badminton sessions relatively close to each other. Every one of them must have a link to a high school.

We aim to open and manage 1 senior badminton session or involve other already existing clubs.

We aim to identify as many local badminton groups as we can to connect organisers with players Warringtonwise to be able to boost player traffic weekly. We aim to have our own tournaments bimonthly among the sessions/club members.

Benefits:

One of the benefits will be that children with potential will have a chance to be able to play at least 3 times a week in a junior environment.

Furthermore, they could meet all criteria to enter into Senior clubs, and they will have a chance to play as many times as they want on weekdays. In some cases, they could play twice a day. This will allow children to find enjoyment in the sport and also the coaching staff to identify all kids whose personalities are ready to become athletes.

The 3 High Schools (Bridgewater, Lymm, and Cardinal Newman) will collaborate to hold friendly tournaments once a year in one of the school`s sports halls.

Last but not least South Warrington`s badminton traffic will slowly rise. Our kids will become stronger with every challenge they`ve got. This is a clear pathway to becoming a badminton athlete, getting into the County team and reaching international stages while you live and play in South Warrington.

Actions for delivery:

Our goal is to open 1 junior club in Lymm in 2020. This will let us understand what challenges a new club can provide and we can also prepare for the last club`s opening which will most probably be in Newman High School in Latchford. We will then calculate how could we create cross-membership at a reduced price for our juveniles.

Project include:

  • Research opportunities and get into Lymm High`s badminton session on Fridays.
  • Open the Network`s new paid session in Lymm High
  • Research for the next candidate in Newman`s High

The 2nd iteration will deliver the 3rd club`s opening and we will research if the regular competition is required within the Network or later on among the 3 high schools.

The 3rd iteration of the project aims to open sessions throughout the week, at least 5 times, so children can access 5 times a week opportunity to thrive.

The revision of the project will be in the Q1 of 2024
